Bell Media Layoffs: What’s Happening Now?

What is the reason for Bell Media Layoffs?

Bell Media has laid off nearly 100 employees in its latest round of job cuts. The company confirmed that 98 positions have been impacted, primarily in service and corporate departments. Of those, 44 are union roles, with most affected employees being offered voluntary separation packages.

Despite the layoffs, Bell Media has assured the public that no CTV News journalists have been impacted, and no news programs have been cancelled. This round of cuts is mainly affecting employees in Toronto and Montreal.

How Many Jobs Has Bell Cut in Recent Years?

This is just the latest in a series of job reductions at Bell. Earlier this year, the company offered voluntary separation to 1,200 union workers. Over the past two years, Bell has cut 7,000 jobs across Canada, including:

  • 4,800 job losses in 2024 as part of a major restructuring
  • 1,000 layoffs at The Source
  • 120 job cuts at Expertech
  • 50 positions eliminated at Bell Media

Bell Media has been downsizing for several years. In 2022, the company let go of CTV Vancouver anchors and radio hosts. A year earlier, newsroom staff in Toronto and sports radio station employees were also laid off.

What Should Laid-Off Bell Media Employees Know About Severance?

Unionized employees will have specific entitlements outlined in their collective agreements, while non-unionized employees may be eligible for up to 24 months’ pay, depending on their circumstances.
