Paramount Skydance to Cut Thousands of Jobs Following Merger

Paramount Skydance is preparing for a significant round of layoffs that could impact roughly 2,000 workers across the United States, according to multiple reports. The cuts follow the company’s massive merger and form part of a sweeping cost-reduction strategy.

The job cuts come on the heels of the August merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global, a deal valued at approximately US$8 billion. As the companies integrate, Paramount Skydance is aiming to reduce expenses by about US$2 billion, prompting major restructuring efforts.

Reports indicate that around 2,000 employees in the U.S. will be let go, with more layoffs expected in international markets. The reductions will affect staff across multiple divisions, including streaming, theatrical, linear television, and other business units.

When Will the Layoffs Begin?

The first wave of cuts is expected as early as next week, ahead of the company’s upcoming third-quarter financial announcement on November 10. However, according to Deadline, this will be only the beginning, with additional rounds anticipated to continue through the end of the year.

Jeff Shell, President of Paramount, acknowledged in August that the decisions ahead will be difficult. He emphasized that while the process will be “painful,” the goal is to avoid repeated cutbacks quarter after quarter.

Paramount currently employs roughly 18,000 employees worldwide, while Skydance has fewer than 2,000 employees. The combined restructuring aims to streamline operations following the merger.

In addition to the layoffs, the company has instructed employees to return on-site beginning January 5, 2026. Those unable or unwilling to return have been offered severance packages, signaling a major shift in the company’s workplace approach.
