Canada Recovery Hiring Program

What is The Canada Recovery Hiring Program And How it Works

The Canadian government has announced its Budget 2021, which includes the introduction of the new Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP). This program will provide a subsidy to offset a portion of the cost employers take on as they recover from the impacts of COVID. CRHP will assist by either increasing wages or hours worked or allow employers to hire more staff.

The Canada Recovery Hiring Program will be available from June 6, 2021, to November 20, 2021, for eligible employers that continue to experience reduced revenues as a result of the pandemic. The rates for the wage subsidy and hiring program will ramp down over time, beginning at 50% subsidy and gradually lowering to 20%. This provides employers with a strong incentive to begin hiring as soon as possible to maximize the CRHP benefit.

Eligible employers will include Canadian-controlled private corporations, individuals, non-profit organizations, registered charities, and certain partnerships. Eligible employers must have had a revenue drop greater than 0% for the June 6, 2021 – July 3, 2021, qualifying period, and greater than 10% for the qualifying period between July 4, 2021, and November 20, 2021. Employers that wish to apply for Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP) must file within 180 days after the end of the qualifying period.

Budget 2021 has introduced a variety of economic supports for employers and employees, including the creation of a projected 330,000 jobs and 500,000 new training and work experience opportunities.
